The Beaumont shelter has flooded in Hurricane Harvey. Over $2 million was raised and the shelter was renovated. Three months after moving back into the shelter, Tropical Storm Imelda again flooded the shelter. At the time, many program funders threatened to remove funding if we did not relocate to a safe place outside of the flood zone. Hence, Family Services purchased 19 acres outside of the flood zone and building of a new shelter has begun.
The new 30,500 sq. ft. shelter will be located at 6730 Concord Road, in Beaumont. It will provide 144 beds for victims of domestic violence and sexual assault. It will also combine the admission offices with the shelter on one campus.
